Hans Christian Andersen

April 2, 1805 – August 4, 1875

In case you didn't know, Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense on April 2, 1805.  He died on August 4, 1875.

His birthplace is just 2 blocks from the apartment and the Hans Christian Andersen Museum is just one block away.

Everyday the museum puts on a musical performance that highlights all of HCAs fairy tales.  It is really well done and always full of people.  The performance is in Danish, but Hans (the actor of course) occasionally speaks in English to keep all the American tourists “in the loop”.

Some of the fairly tales highlighted in the performance are:

The Emperor's New Clothes
The Ice-Maiden
The Little Match Girl
The Little Mermaid
The Nightingale
The Princess and the Pea
The Red Shoes
Sandman
The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep
The Snow Queen
The Steadfast Tin Soldier
The Swineherd
Thumbelina
The Tinderbox
The Ugly Duckling

Hans Christian Andersen himself!

And at the end of the show, Thumbelina floats across the pond!

And I saved the best for last.  This one is for you Mac.  You ask for Mermaids, I deliver Mermaids!  The Little Mermaid floats out on a rock (not sure how that is possible, but it's a fairy tale,  just go with it)
